<p>This article examines the issue of diagnosing emotional states via handwriting within the context of forensic handwriting analysis. The study focuses on the theoretical and applied boundaries of a forensic handwriting expert’s competence when determining the psychophysiological states of a manuscript’s author. The work employs methods involving the analysis of scientific literature, the generalization of expert practice, and the modeling of the diagnostic process. Aspects such as the relationship between graphological and forensic handwriting analysis approaches, the selective variability of handwriting as a basis for diagnosis, and procedural and methodological limitations are discussed. The main conclusions are as follows: a forensic expert is competent to record the impact of distorting factors but is not authorized to provide a psychological classification of states; furthermore, the majority of diagnostic conclusions are probabilistic in nature. The author contributes an integrative methodology combining individual calibration, quantitative analysis of stroke parameters, and statistical comparison with experimental samples; this approach allows for the objectification of conclusions without exceeding the scope of specialized expertise. The study concludes that the implementation of quantitative criteria and reference databases can enhance the evidentiary value of diagnostic findings.</p>
<kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>судебное почерковедение</kwd><kwd>диагностическая экспертиза</kwd><kwd>эмоциональное состояние</kwd><kwd>сбивающие факторы</kwd><kwd>избирательная изменчивость</kwd><kwd>идентификационные признаки</kwd><kwd>вероятностный вывод</kwd><kwd>интегративная методика</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>forensic handwriting analysis</kwd><kwd>diagnostic examination</kwd><kwd>emotional state</kwd><kwd>distorting factors</kwd><kwd>selective variability</kwd><kwd>identification features</kwd><kwd>probabilistic conclusion</kwd><kwd>integrative methodology</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><ref id="ref1"><mixed-citation publication-type="other" xml:lang="ru">Павлова А.А.
